Label Trail, Global Awards To Be Unveiled At Labelexpo

Labelexpo Europe 2025, being held September 16-19 in Barcelona, Spain, will feature The Label Trail, a guided experience from concept to consumer. The initiative is developed by companies such as: Avery Dennison, CERM, CarbonQuota, Esko, Grafisk Maskinfabrik (GM), KURZ, SCRIBOS and Xeikon.

Aligning with the show’s focus on sustainability and innovation, The Label Trail will provide attendees with an end-to-end exploration of the modern label production process, focusing on carbon measurement and sustainability, automation, and innovative smart packaging solutions.

Visitors will have the opportunity to follow the fictional brand “Dancing Fish” as it is expanding into the nutritional supplements market and needs new labels for its products to meet new market demands, whilst measuring and reducing its carbon footprint. To ensure product authenticity and consumer safety, brand protection features need to be integrated into the labels of its new nutritional supplements line. The Label Trail encompasses every stage of the label creation journey—from job specification, order handling, prepress and automated carbon footprinting to digital printing, embellishment, and finishing.

Participants will gain insights into how low-impact materials, carbon measurement and sustainable processes contribute to reducing environmental impact, aligning with the industry’s commitment to sustainability. The Label Trail also delves into the integration of smart packaging technologies, illustrating how digital content and traceability features enhance consumer engagement and meet compliance requirements. Furthermore, industry experts will provide valuable knowledge on topics such as carbon data management, regulatory compliance, and supply chain transparency.

Each guided tour lasts approximately 60 minutes and is limited to 20 participants.

Global Awards

Labelexpo Europe 2025 will celebrate the label industry’s peers with the inaugural Global Awards. Achievements across three categories will be awarded: Innovation; Sustainability, and Converter of the Year.

An initial curated list of nominees was first selected by Labels & Labeling’s global editorial team, based on news coverage and industry impact reported by the magazine throughout the year.

The Innovation Award, sponsored by Gallus/Heidelberg, recognizes companies that have developed a specific, groundbreaking innovation, either as a supplier or converter, that is new or novel, functional and impactful on the wider label and package printing industries.

The shortlisted nominees are: Esko, for its Print Clone AI color matching tool; LemuGroup, for its end-of-line automation; and Mark Andy, for its Digital Series HD High-Speed 1200 press.

In the Sustainability category, nominees were selected for sustainable products or processes, developed by a supplier or converter, that promote a reduced environmental impact or a circular economy. The sustainability award is sponsored by Durst Group.

The shortlisted nominees are: Bio4life, for its home-compostable pressure-sensitive adhesive; Elkem, for its recycled release liner silicones; and Polish converter Masterpress, for its development of magnetizable inks for shrink sleeves with Magnomer.

The Converter of the Year Award is sponsored by Flint Group. This award recognizes a label printing and converter company that has stood out over the last year and met a number of criteria, including a commitment to a diverse and inclusive workforce; development of training programs; contributions to charitable initiatives and the introduction of innovative products or programs.

The shortlisted nominees are Masterpress from Poland; OPM Group from the United Kingdom and Schreiner MedPharm from Germany.

The winners will be announced at a welcome party on September 16, during the first night of LabelExpo Europe 2025. Festa Barcelona will take place at Time Out Market Barcelona, and feature music, and food and drink showcasing the best of Barcelona.
