The Flexographic Technical Association (FTA) has launched Flexo Fundamentals, a new on-demand training course designed for professionals who work with flexographic printing but don’t operate in the pressroom.
Flexographic printing powers nearly half of the world’s packaging, yet many professionals who interact with it daily have never seen a press in action. Flexo Fundamentals bridges that gap by turning technical complexity into clear, accessible knowledge. The course empowers learners to communicate confidently with clients, vendors, and production teams—without needing a technical background.
“We developed Flexo Fundamentals to help professionals feel confident talking about flexography,” said Kenny Tucker, FTA’s Director of Technical Education. “By understanding how flexographic printing works, non-production team members can make better decisions, build stronger client relationships, and reduce costly miscommunications.”
Through visuals, real-world examples, and interactive tools, Flexo Fundamentals provides a clear overview of:
• What flexographic printing is and why it’s essential to packaging production,
• How inks, plates, anilox rollers, and substrates work together,
• The workflow from artwork to press to finished product,
• Where flexography fits best across applications and industries, and
• How sustainability is driving innovation in flexo.

In other news, This year’s FTA Technical Conference, held September 21–23 in Orlando, Florida, focused on real-world solutions, the kind that help converters, printers, and brand owners elevate their operations.
Under the leadership of Conference Chair Bob Coomes of PPC Flexible Packaging, the 2025 agenda offered 24 technical sessions, totaling more than 800 minutes of education.
Among the dominant themes this year were Flexographic Image Reproduction Specifications and Tolerances (FIRST) methodologies— optimization, fingerprinting, characterization, process control and process improvement–that continue to shape the future of flexographic printing.
The conference also highlighted emerging technologies — from AI to RFID integration to inline color measurement systems.
The FTA Technical Conference focused on case studies and troubleshooting. Printers and suppliers shared first-hand experiences addressing flexography’s variables, substrate challenges, and workflow bottlenecks.
